Muddies U14s take on Atherton

Going into day two Atherton 2 had a slight lead with the Astute Financial Muddies resuming with five wickets in hand.
Atherton 2 held on to take the points with a first innings win 187 to 161.
Resuming on 23 from 47 Vincent Killeen managed to add 4 runs to his total before being caught behind.
Reuben Allison made 1 from 4 before falling victim to a direct hit throw from the outfield and being run out.
Connor White showed his best batting form of the season to make a valuable 8 from 24 balls faced.
The boys were happy to see Nick Rayner return to the crease with his 14 from 26 being a valuable contribution.
Liam Clacherty returning from injury was unbeaten at the end of the innings on 9 from 14.
The boys were going to need to bowl well to keep Atherton under their total of 161.
The boys started well with some strong second spell bowling performances. Reuben, Finn, and Vincent all took 1 for 3 from two overs in their second spell with Reuben finishing on 1 for 15 from six overs, Finn 1 for 13 from four overs and Vincent 2 for 14 from five overs.
Curtis and Connor White were both impressive taking 1 for 12 and 2 for 12 respectively.
Ryan Doble was strong finishing with figures of 1 for 19 from six overs. Tex was again economical finishing with 0 for 9 from four overs.
Nathan finished with figures of 1 for 12 from five overs thanks to a diving catch from Luke Twomey who was playing up a grade from U12’s.
Fraser’s pace saw him come away with 0 for 31 from his six overs and Luke Twomey shook off some early nerves to finish with 0 for 16 from his two overs.
Nick Rayner bowled two overs and proved again to be consistently economical taking 0 for 3 from two overs.
The stand out bowling figures of the day came from Liam Clacherty with 2 for 0 from two overs.
Despite the strong effort and much improved fielding Atherton 2’s total of 187 was enough for them to take first innings points.
The remaining 19 overs of the day played purely for points saw Fraser make 4 from 11, Curtis 1 from 8, Reuben 5 from 9, Finn 3 from 2 and Liam 5 from 11. The not out batsmen at stumps were Nathan on 16 from 15, and the standout batsmen of the day Luke Twomey unbeaten on 32 from 57 balls which included six boundaries.
The boys have a bye next week but will be eagerly keeping an eye on the results which will dictate finals contenders for the week following.
