Man dies at Agincourt Reef

A 76-year-old American man has died moments after entering the water at Agincourt Reef yesterday.

The man had just entered the water off the Quicksilver snorkeling pontoon at the Reef when he ‘encountered difficulties’ and was immediately attended to by lifeguards.

However they were unable to revive him.

Quicksilver Group managing director Tony Baker said there was no indication the man was in poor health.

“To my knowledge he was fit and healthy,’ Mr Baker said.

“What appears to have happened is that he was in the waist-deep area on the pontoon, which is used for swimmers put on their fins, and he’s stepped off the pontoon into the water and straight away has had problems.

“This happened right in front of our lifeguards and obviously there were with him straight away, but they were unable to revive him.”
