Several readers have contacted the Newsport late last week and over the weekend to express their concerns over the scale of the roadside tree clearance along Capt Cook Highway just South of Mowbray turn off apparently to make way for road improvements.

One reader contacted both Dept Mayor Noli and Mayor Leu to express her concerns but neither of them knew anything about the project or had been pre-informed of the tree and vegetation clearances. Both made it clear that they would be looking into the matter.

It seems that this section of the road has been completed so the damage to the roadsie trees is done but it does appear, with the contined  traffic lights and traffic controllers present, that the road works are moving further along and presumeably the roadside clearance will continue.

We are waiting to hear from Queensland Main Roads to advise how many more of the trees are going to be destroyed in this latest round of highway improvements and where residents can find out what future proposals are being implemented to understand how much more of the invaluable habitat is being sacrificed for road improvements and indeed whether the resident population has any say in the plans.
