A man has died after drowing at Granite Gorge on the Atherton Tableland on Tuesday afternoon.

The man, reportedly a tourist from Uzbekistan, slipped at the water’s edge while trying to feed turtles at the Gorge.

He was apparently unable to swim and was pulled from the water unconscious.

The man’s wife alerted camping facility staff, who in turn summoned paramedics that arrived at the scene via helicopter at about 4:20pm.

They performed CPR on the man but he was unable to be resuscitated.

The incident follows the drowning of a 9-year old Australian girl at Rossville,  south of Cooktown, in February, and the drowning of an 18-year-old local man at Crystal Cascades in Cairns in February 2014.

A German tourist also drowned at Granite Gorge in 2011.
