Great Sunday turn out for ‘Paws for a walk’

70 dogs brought their owners down to Four Mile Park off Barrier Street for a walk along Four Mile Beach to raise funds for Paws n Claws.

Organiser Sandra Jaeschke explained that fellow organiser Jono Cant had been down to Cairns earlier in the year for a similar event and suggested via facebook that this would be a cool idea to get dog owners together in Port Douglas and raise some much needed funds for Paws n Claws.

This generated  in a whole flurry of facebook chatter and a meeting in Port was called. From that meeting a team of four enthusiasts including Sandra, Jono plus Sherie Henderson and Lillee Thatcher came together to form a committee resulting on Sunday in a healthy $1200 raised with the whole ‘pack’ having a great time walking, running, scampering, and in some cases being carried because Four Mile Beach proved too much for them and that was just the owners!!

Sandra said, “We organised this event independently with Paws n Claws being the beneficiary but everyone was delighted with the results so we’ll be running the walks in association with Paws n Claws the future.

Sandra said, ”We’d like to thank everyone for making it such a brilliant morning and we look forward to seeing everyone again in the very near future.”
