'Bigger and Better' Seafood Extravaganza crowns Carnivale 2015

Published Monday June 1 2015, 3:30pm

The ‘crowning glory of Carnivale’, Seafood Extravaganza, has been hailed as a massive sucess with at least 4000 people attending to sample delicious seafood delicacies and listen to quality live music at one of Port Douglas’s most scenic locations.

This year the Seafood Extravaganza, one of Carnivale’s longest-running events at 21 years, featured offerings from Crazy Dragon, Reef Caterers, Temptations, Mojo’s, Lure, Big Jules' Pizza, Summer Icecream, Sno Cones, Pws and Claws and Rattle and Hum.

Live music was also a key feature of the event, with Sun Salute, Bobby Maguire, Kevin Carrington, Davy Simony and Alessandra Busignani keeping crowds entertained throughout the day, in addition to the cast from the Clink Theatre’s production of ‘Annie’ taking the stage.

Jumping castles and facepainting kept kids entertained while a fireworks show by Xplosive Art capped off the day.

Event organiser Vicki Kurth at Managing Australian Destinations (MAD) said that the Extravaganza had once again been a true crowd pleaser.

“People came from all over - Cairns, Mareeba, Western Australia, Melbourne, Reef Magic even brought a boatload of people up from Cairns for the event,” Ms Kurth said.

“Seafood Extravaganza is the finale of Carnivale - people go to it and it’s the event that convinces them to come back next year, they make up their minds at it.

“There are so many people to thank - the Reef Marina for putting it together and funding it, our sponsors, without whom the event wouldn’t have happened, Xplosive Art for the fireworks, all the musicians and of course all the caterers who provided the delicious seafood, as well as our workers who made the whole thing happen.

“A special mention has to go to cleaners Smiths Cleaning and Cleanaway - without them none of Carnivale could be possible, they really are unsung heroes

“One last acknowledgement has to go to our intern Vanessa Stocco who put the entire program together and did an excellent job.”

Carnivale general manager Roy Weavers said the Seafood Extravaganza had been an excellent send-off for Carnivale 2015.

“Once again it’s been bigger and better,” he said.

“The food was terrific - there was so many people coming through and eating that many of the caterers had to restock.

“There were also more providers of alcohol this time and they also did an excellent trade.

“I’d like to congratulate everyone involved in pulling off a very impressive event.”
