Adventure Waters Waterpark in Smithfield

With the 8.15 billion dollar Aquis Casino Beach Resort continuing to progress, it is no surprise that the announcement of the 45-million dollar Adventure Waters Water Park supports Local businessman and Adventure Waters Chief Executive Officer’s Paul Freebody’s overall strategy to present a world class entertainment precinct, with the property ideally situated directly across the road from the Casino and Hotel complex.

The 17 Acres (6.9 hectares) Adventure Waters Waterpark, Cairns will be located 12 kilometres north of the Cairns central business district and just off the western side of the Captain Cook Hwy at Lot 28 Dillon Road Smithfield.

The Waterpark includes various ride attraction, pools and activity area (action river and lagoon, kid’s water play areas, flow rider), food service outlet, and retail mix.

The only remaining site in which this type of facility can be built and with 286,000 catchment population and over 2 million visitors and new China fights into Cairns all lead to strong demand for this type of infrastructure.

It was announced that Mareeba builder Gregg Constructions have been awarded the tender from 29th June 2015 with completion expected by September 2016.  Steve Peet and Mark Mercer Warner Village Theme Parks Chief Operating Officer and Water Park Consultant have been overseeing the process, whom also oversaw Dreamworld’s White Water World on the Gold Coast.  Australian investors with a development discount are funding the project which means constructions can finally begin.

Despite 6 years of endless delays since the project was given the go ahead by a previous Council, Paul Freebody sees this as benefit to the evolution of the development now introducing attractions that were not even thought of  7 years ago.

“Cairns Mayor Bob Manning welcomed the news and said his would work with Mr Freebody to ensure the project went off without a hitch.

“It will certainly stimulate dome activity in the town and what’s more encouraging is we have investors who are now looking at the tourism industry,” he said.

“I predict that we will see more investment, and we are on the edge of an exciting time.”

The design has been inspired by Waterbom Bali and will be a “cashless” attraction with visitors wearing credit loaded wristbands.

Waterbom Bali is renowned for its world-class slides and rides that are built and maintained to strict international safety standards. Waterbom Bali uses the advanced salt chlorination water sanitizing technique which is soft on the environment and on your skin too. Waterbom Bali is also an EarthCheck Silver Benchmarked company for the ongoing commitment to having environmentally sustainable operation.

There is no denying the potential economic benefits of major tourist attractions such as this to local communities.  Paul Freebody is committed to employing locals.  This means potentially more jobs created for locals during the construction phase of up to 340 jobs and then upon completion employing more than 200 staff.

The good news is the flow on benefit from major projects such as this is also the social benefit to the local and wider communities. There will be many locals from the Port Douglas community eager to visit this attraction.
