A media release published by The North Queensland Airports Group (NQA), owner and operator of Cairns and Mackay Airports, advises the public of major works commencing at Cairns Airport on Monday 20th July 2015. 

“The project is planned to ensure minimal impact on aircraft operations but given the location of some of the work some delays may be experienced for both arriving and departing aircraft. Anyone flying or coming to the airport to meet flights is reminded to check www.cairnsairport.com.au for the latest information on flight arrival and departure times.”  

TRAFFIC AND OPERATIONS ADVICE AS MAJOR PROJECT COMMENCES  

Work will commence at Cairns Airport from next Monday, 20 July on a major taxiway upgrade project within the airside network. The project is expected to run through until December.  

Cairns Airport GM Assets, Jeff McEachern, said the project is another example of Cairns Airport’s continued commitment to investing in vital aviation infrastructure to support our regional economy.  

“The work includes asphalt overlay on the taxiways,” Mr McEachern said. “This will require asphalt delivery trucks to travel along Airport Avenue at various times, in both directions throughout the project.”  

“There will be changed traffic conditions along Airport Avenue throughout the project with signage in place to inform motorists. People using Airport Avenue are advised to be alert to these changes and always drive to the conditions. A reduction of some of the 80km/h speed limit zone to 60km/h will apply in both directions along Airport Avenue.”  

“Drivers will need to be aware of trucks and other project related vehicles travelling in both directions and stopping, entering and exiting the roadway. It’s very important for drivers to also remember there is NO PARKING, STANDING or STOPPING anywhere along Airport Avenue.”
