On Friday 24th July, 100 VIP guests including cover girls and local celebrities from the previous Issues enjoyed catching up at the Newsport Offices on the corner of Wharf and Inlet Streets in Port Douglas to celebrate the launch of the 17th edition of the 100 page PORT DOUGLAS Magazine.
The rainbow of colour that shines from the very first page of its superbly crafted full gloss pages, is as stylish as the invited guests who celebrated the eagerly awaited publication.
Spoilt by a finger buffet of oysters and various meat and fish canapés, guests were treated by two of the magazine culinary advertisers, Nautilus Restaurant and Osteria Padella. Accompaning this were the usual suspets, champagne, wines and Corona helping to relax the special occassion.
Sarah Cullen, Magazine Editor, said how proud she was of the magazine and the people who brought it together. Sarah attributes the success of the magazine to the Port Douglas brand as a destination, “We wouldn't be able to bring it together without so much interest and so many successful products in the area”.
Managing Director and husband Sam Cullen thanked the magazine team and confirmed in his opinion this 17th edition was the best yet. The assembled guests seem to agree. He stressed how hard the team had worked on the distribution of the magazine to ensure all locals and visitors had easy access to a copy wherever they travelled in the region.
Sam confirmed that the magazine upon arrival that day had already started being distributed throughout the local accommodation sector and to all the high traffic tourist display racks that have been strategically positioned around the shopping centres and main street. It is also placed in most restaurants, bars and offices and is free of charge.
The 17th edition showcases features that include a look into the heritage of Quicksilver, a name synonymous with Port Douglas. Founder, Jim Wallace talks about how the company shaped tourism trips out to the Great Barrier Reef.
The magazine catches up with local, world renowned artist Tina Gonsalves and her family during their travels around the world and back to the Port Douglas Artists’ Beach House and a fun conversation with “The Queen Of The Cross”, the very glamorous entertainer, Carlotta.
Another episode from the Women of the Douglas series provides a great peek into the lives of another three of the dynamic local ladies.
Working with the magazines latest cover concepts, issue 17 introduces another local, Marine Desroches, who graces the front cover of the magazine modelling fashionwear from Tzusk and Barbarella & Swan shot on location at the Killaloe cane train track near Mossman. Marine joins a prestigious group of local ladies who have made the last three covers so stunning.
New to this addition is more local orientated content such as the Trades and Services Directory at the back to help you find everything you need. The magazine has been welcomed by the locals and as result will aim to service them as well as its tourist and visitor readers.
Visitors will find the magazine in their rooms or lobby's of their accommodation houses. And visitors can take out a three edition postal subscription to the magazine with details on page 6 of the latest magazine.
