Seniors Week 2015 is from 15-23 August and is a great opportunity for our Douglas Shire residents of all ages to join together and celebrate the valuable contribution our seniors make to our community.
Through a range of events and activities, Seniors Week aims to acknowledge the numerous contributions many older people make in their lives including assisting their families with caring responsibilities while being actively engaged in their communities and passing on their wealth of knowledge and experience to others.
Council announced that Seniors Week 2015 will be a “supersized Seniors Week in Douglas”.
Morning teas, Tai Chi, a bus trip and a Seniors Expo are just some of the Seniors Week activities on offer for Douglas Shire residents next month as Seniors Week is being celebrated.
Mayor Cr Julia Leu said the huge line-up of activities demonstrates the vibrancy of the Douglas Shire.
“Age is no barrier in the Douglas Shire, we love to celebrate the community we live in and make the most of every day,” Mayor Leu said.
“Our local community organisations have done an amazing job putting together such a stimulating program and Council is very pleased to support activities promoting wellbeing and social participation for our Shire’s residents.”
“Seniors Week is a wonderful opportunity for residents of all ages to unite and celebrate the valuable contributions of Seniors activities aiming to enhance community connections, inter-generational relationships and community attitudes towards older people and ageing.”
