The Mossman Country Women’s Association (CWA) will host a delicious morning tea in order to attract donations for a renovation of their hall.
On Thursday March 12, the CWA will invite local business, representatives from all levels of government and the public to their hall on the corner of Front and Williams Streets in Mossman to ask for help with paying the $100,000 bill needed to refurbish the hall.
Cairns Community Enterprise, an initiative of Bendigo Bank, has already committed $20,000 to the project.
Mossman CWA branch president Helen Assman said the upgrades would make the hall accessible to everyone in the community.
“Our kitchen needs renovating so that we can continue to cater for community events, but our priority is to make the hall and in particular the toilets wheelchair accessible so that the the hall can be used by the whole community,” she said.
New Bendigo Bank Mossman branch manager Darren Killeen said the cause was a worthy one to support and the bank was looking forward to helping the CWA reach its goal.
“We held a community forum in Mossman a few weeks back and a refurbishment of the CWA hall was found to be the most popular cause,” he said.
“Cairns Community Enterprise had some extra funds to spend and we decided to support that project.
“Anyone that takes out a product with us can tag a project they want to see supported and portion of the branch’s profits will be diverted to it.
“Community support was the principle Bendigo Bank was born on.”
Bendigo Bank and CWA will be looking at a variety of sources to complete the project.
“We’re looking for support from local, state and Federal government,” Mr Killeen said.
“We’ve also had a lot of commitments of in-kind support from local tradies.
“Right now we are at a point where we can start moving forward and building some momentum but there is a while to go yet, which is the reason for this CWA event - to build awareness and support.”
