The Astute Financial U16 Douglas Muddies played their second one dayer of the season against United travelling to Endeavour Park Cairns hoping to have another win for the season.

Captain Keel Sorensen won the toss electing his team to bowl opening with Ryan Doble and Liam Clacherty.   With some smooth bowling Liam picked up the first wicket followed by Ryan in his third over. Levi Trewick and Reuben Allison bowled first change with Reuben picking up a wicket with a great catch from Daniel Davidson.

Ryan was brought back into the attack and picked up two more wickets both being catches to Curtis White. Curtis was the next bowler to pick up a wicket with a catch by Reuben.   United's score was 5/73 after  17 overs.  The next six Muddies bowlers bowled without taking a wicket.

Daniel finally broke through with a wicket taking out the United's  Captain with a nice catch from Keel. The Muddies finished their bowling with United achieving a strong score of 7/157 after 32 over.

It was time for the Muddies to show their batting expertise and the Muddies openers Daniel and Levi succeeded in showing their Cairns opposition what they could do. The openers did  a great job seeing out the opening bowlers and putting runs on the board with a partnership of 68 runs scored at the loss of the first wicket of Levi on 28.

Ryan was next to bat and he worked well with Daniel ticking the score over to 80 before Daniel lost his wicket for 34 runs after 17 overs. Reuben came to the crease to join Ryan, and both of them put on some quick and fast runs before Reuben was caught for seven runs.  Keel was fifth batsman and he and Ryan needed 45 runs to win, both batting strong and skilfully adding to the progressive score before Ryan was caught behind for 33 runs, again an immediate victim directly after the drinks break.

Nathan Deuble joined Keel, but it wasn't long before Nathan was walking back to the shed with only one run to his name.  Curtis strode out to the crease intent on not going out for LBW like last week and together he and Keel worked well  needing 11 runs of the last five overs. Curtis and Keel played some good shots picking up easy runs.  The Muddies needed only two runs to win off three overs when the United bowler threw a wide ball that went for four making the winning score of 5/163 with the Muddies calling it a day.

Keel was top scorer not out for 38 runs and Dave’s Takeaways’ Man of The Match Curtis not out for six. The Muddies were proud to have their second win for the season.

U16s will resume after Christmas break next year with their first game back being two Twenty20s at Kerribee Park in Mareeba on 16 January 2016.
