Port Douglas and Mossman businesses will add to the festive season by decorating their windows for the Best Dressed Christmas Window competition.

The Douglas Shire Council, with support from the Douglas Chamber of Commerce, will be looking for the Best Dressed Christmas Windows.

President of the Douglas Chamber of Commerce Helen De Ross said the idea for this initiative transpired via the Council and is a perfect way to bring out the festive cheer she added.

“Mayor Julia Leu contacted Chamber of Commerce with the idea to create a Christmas Window competition that will bring a festive atmosphere to Port Douglas and Mossman and we think it’s a great idea,” said Ms De Ross.

With the spirit of the festive season gradually building, there is something nostalgic about seeing your local business community decked in decorations.

“There is nothing like that Christmas feeling with beautiful displays in the shop windows that contribute to the holiday atmosphere.  In December that is, not October and November,” said Ms De Ross.

There are hopes that the Best Dressed Christmas Window will grow each year.

“We may look at tying it in with a Late Night Christmas Shopping Event in December and have community participation to vote for Best Dressed Christmas Windows,” said an excited De Ross.

Businesses do not have to register to participate, just grab some Christmas decorations and start decorating. However it is suggested that you post a comment on the Douglas Chamber of Commerce Facebook Page to ensure that they are aware who is joining in the festivities.

“This will also be an opportunity to promote your business,” she said.

“We hope that there will be a positive response and look forward to seeing what our businesses come up with.  We hope that each year this will grow and businesses have time to include this in plans for merchandising and window displays for December.
