Croc gets caught up in Ellis Beach swim net

Published Tuesday 1 December 2015

A small crocodile has found itself caught in the Ellis Beach Stinger nets this afternoon with on duty Life-guard Jay March responding to members of the public at 2pm this afternoon.

"The public spotted small croc cross over the back of the netted area in safe swim area, within the nets and reported it. It has been trapped in netted area since"

Lifeguards have let down the right side of the nets to release the croc, but it remains trapped as of 5pm.

Mr March said for swimmers "to not be complacent in the area, it's their territory, always have a good look before you go in the water."

Newsport arrived on scene at 5pm and the croc was still in the net.

Two QLD heritage environment officers were present and were watching for the crocs safety. They were unable to comment to media.

The croc was not harmed.

Lifeguards said that if it doesn't leave they will release the whole net.
