Council contributed $3,000 towards the fireworks displays in Anzac Park at 8:30pm and midnight and $3,000 towards free family friendly entertainment in Market Park from 4:00pm to 8:00pm.

The entertainment precinct will include children’s games and entertainment, face painting, street performers, a jumping castle and even a magic show.

Kelda Wray will be entertaining young and old with craft stations, creating a time capsule and lots of games the whole family can enjoy.  Drew will be there with his “bubble machine” to entertain the masses and a jumping castle will keep the young ones bouncing.

The NYE festivities have the potential to grow with hopes that it will be an annual event for years to come advised Mayor Julia Leu.

“Council and the Douglas Chamber of Commerce wanted to do something to attract families from throughout the Douglas Shire and further afield on New Year’s Eve.

“The creation of a fun-filled entertainment precinct in Market Park is a great incentive for families to come down and enjoy some fabulous free activities before the first fireworks display.

“It also provides a great opportunity for local resorts to promote the event and encourage visitors to celebrate the New Year in the Douglas Shire with their families,” said Mayor Leu.

Treasurer for Douglas Chamber of Commerce Kym Rowley said they are still accepting donations towards supporting the NYE fireworks and he can be contacted on 4099 5553 for further details.
