Once again the community spirt of the Douglas Shire bands together in support of a local fundraiser in aid of helping little Rumer and her family.

Rumer Maujean aged 3 daughter of Sacha Maujean and sister of Romany Maujean aged 10, was diagnosed with an aggressive high risk neuroblatoma on 24/12/2014

Barbara Wolveridge of Raine & Horne Port Douglas, together with Lure Restaurant, MAD and Uptown Rentals have come together and collaborated on a fundraising event to be held on Friday 28th August at Lure Restaurant at The Reef Marina.

“I came up with the fundraising idea because Sacha needed some help to get her little girl backwards and forwards to see her sick sister.

“Every cent of the fundraising monies goes to Rumer.  Alcohol and food have been donated. There will be raffles as well as an auction and a silent auction. We have a delightful young woman singing for us on the night Alessandra Busignani.

“I would love to have a lot of young people turn up but for the grace of God it could be any of our children,” said Barbara.

“A few days before Christmas Sacha rushed Rumer to Cairns Base hospital where Rumer had many tests and ultra sounds done.  The next day they told Sacha that Rumer had a large cancerous growth in her tummy and they had to fly down to Brisbane hospital immediately for treatment.  Rumer has been given a 50% chance of survival.  Sacha is living in the hospital with Rumer in Brisbane and is trying to fly her other daughter Romany down as much as possible,” informed Barbara.

Providing an update on Rumer via Barbara, Sacha advised on Sunday that “Rumer is doing very well after her BMT and is very happy playing with her sister this weekend.  However just when we think we are kicking cancers butt we get some not so good news.  Rumer had an ultrasound and unfortunately her tumour is still quite large measuring at 8cm long.  We are yet to confirm with her specialist as to whether the tumour has grown or simply stopped shrinking. It’s been a long and difficult year for little Rumer and her family and we are all sad to hear her prognosis is still only 50% survival rate after 9 months of chemo, surgery and BMT.

“We are literally relying on the kindness and generosity of strangers to help us pull through over the next 9 months and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generous donations. Bless you all,” reported an emotional Sacha.
Help Rumer Kick Cancer’s Butt Fundraiser will be held on Friday 28th August from 5pm to 7:30pm at Lure Restaurant.  Entry fee is $20 which includes canapés, entertainment, raffles and auctions.
