Fun Day Success, Match Day Flop

The Douglas United Dragons have hosted an enjoyable afternoon and evening at Cassowary Park on Friday, inviting members and folk from the community along to a Family Fun Day.
The concept was to have a fun-filled afternoon of both football activities, a children’s movie and fairground type events to promote the club and raise a little money at the same time. The whole event was to lead into the Seniors match against Edge Hill at 8pm and while there was a match of sorts, Edge Hill were only able to muster up eight players, some of whom were ineligible so the result was a Dragons win by forfeit.
Kids were seen racing around Cassowary Park throughout the afternoon, kicking footballs and playing fun football games organised by some of the senior players. They also tried their hand at balancing a coin on a lemon in a bowl of water, landing a 50c piece on a bar of chocolate and guessing the number of balloons in the president’s car. When the little ones began to run out of steam there was the very fitting “How to train your Dragon” playing on the big screen. Bags of popcorn were on hand to provide an authentic feel to the evening.
On the pitch it was little more than a training session for the Dragons with the highlight being Ben Syrett scoring his first goal of the season. It is somewhat of a contentious one as to whether this goal actually counts as a legitimate goal for the season.
Next up is the last regular season home game against Dimbullah out at Cassowary Park on Friday evening. So get out and support the Dragons in their final home game of the season before finals time.
