"Springborg has used my children": Gordon

Member for Cook Billy Gordon has blasted LNP Leader Lawrence Springborg for disseminating his minor children’s confidential information.

Mr Gordon accused Springborg of being 'a political grub' who released the information in his 'ugly drive to become Queensland Premier'.

"I condemn the gutter tactics of Lawrence Springborg, who has disseminated confidential information about my two young children for political gain,” Mr Gordon said.

“This is the man who is a pretender for the Premiership of Queensland.

“But by showing he’ll do anything to get me out of parliament and force his way into the Premier’s suite, he has disqualified himself from high office.

“His actions disgust me. How would he feel if his political opponents used his children’s confidential details as smear tactics?

“I will do everything I can to hold this man to account for his actions, which have grievously hurt me and my young children, whom I love dearly.”

Mr Gordon said that the dissemination of the confidential information breached the Child Support (Assessment) Act.

Mr Gordon said Springborg’s actions showed a total ignorance of the workings of the child support system in Australia.

Child support debts are debited on the ledger and then credited on the ledger some time after the payment is automatically deducted from a person's wage.

“These appalling tactics by the Opposition Leader are the most base gutter politics. Springborg should face the full force of the law, and his actions condemned by the Parliament," Mr Gordon concluded.

Mr Springborg argued that the release of the information by his office was justified because Mr Gordon and Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk 'misled' the public over Mr Gordon's criminal record.

Aside from the matter involving Mr Springborg, Mr Gordon has been focusing on native title matters in Cape York, including the dispute between the Wik and Waya people of the Aurukun region and the developers of a bauxite mine.
