Kitesurfing, dilly-bags, ice-cream and lots of 'local' profiles all feature in the latest issue of Port Douglas Magazine, which was launched last Thursday at the Newsport Publishing offices on Wharf Street.
About 50 people, including special guests, magazine contributors and clients, attended the party to celebrate the magazine's first 100 page issue.
The cover art for Issue 16 features exotic 22-year old South African Althea Moos at remote Mackay Sand Cay, wearing swimwear from Splish Splash and jewellery from Barbarella & Swan.
The issue’s editorial content includes looks at the adrenalin-fuelled kitesurfing on Four Mile Beach, the ancient and deeply woven traditions of dilly-bag making by the Daintree’s Indigenous community and a profile of world-class artist and jungle ice-cream extraordinaire Betty Hinton.
The Women of Douglas series is also continued, including Bendigo Bank manager Helen De Ross and co-owner of Harrisons and Bucci restaurants Reina Patrick.
Editor-in-Chief Sarah Cullen took the reins from Roy Weavers this issue as he focused on preparations for the upcoming Carnivale.
Ms Cullen said a lot of work had gone into creating the issue.
“It’s been a fantastic effort by all our writers, contributors and designers,” she said.
“We’d like to extend our thanks to our clients and readers, and we look forward to bringing even more great local content to the community for the next issue.”
