Local Douglas band The Kroovs will record a live performance at Dougie’s Backpackers Resort next Thursday before taking their music across the globe.
The band, which formed last year and have been bringing their Celtic-inspired folk rock to Port Douglas, Cairns, Cooktown and everything in between, are hoping for a good turnout to provide an ‘enthusiastic’ ambient background sound for the recording, according to band member Stacey Brown.
The Kroovs will be playing a mix of covers, traditional songs and some originals, including ‘Rusty Brown’, a ballad about Stacey’s father who caught brumbies in the mountains of southern New South Wales.
The live recording will be used on the band’s upcoming CD, which is scheduled for release in about six weeks.
Live footage and recordings of the performance will also be added to the band’s online presence, which will be used for promotions for their tour of Europe (focusing mainly on Ireland) in September.
Stacey said she felt the band were beginning to ‘hit their straps’ and looked forward to the upcoming performance and tour.
“We’re really passionate about it, I feel like we are really hitting our stride now and I’m looking forward to us bringing back the influences and experience we gain overseas back to Port Douglas.”
The Kroovs performed at last year’s Sunset in the Park at Rex Smeal Park, Port Douglas, alongside fellow folk-rockers Timber and Wood as super-band ‘The Waywoods’.
Their live recording show will take place at Dougies at 7:30pm on Thursday, March 7.
