The Douglas United Dragons have made it three wins from three matches with a walkover 13-0 win over a very undermanned Dimbulah side up in the Tablelands on Friday night.

It was far from the ideal build up the Dragons were hoping for heading into their FNQ Cup clash with Premier League side Innisfail on Wednesday although the confidence found from seven different players finding the back of the net should do the squad a world of good.

Dimbullah, starting the match with the bare eleven players, made a bright opening and should have taken the lead inside five minutes when a penetrating free kick was glanced just wide of the post.

In fact there was no indication of the blow out to follow in the opening exchanges with Dimbullah playing a high pressing game forcing the Dragons into a number of sloppy mistakes.

However the writing was soon on the wall as not one but two Dimbullah players were forced from the field with injuries leaving the Dragons up against just nine men for the majority of the game.

They were already two goals to the good by this stage thanks to a fine opener from Stan Jakovljevic and a tap in to Joe Bownes.

From this point on it was more of a training ground exercise for the Dragons they set about working on a few things from the training pitch.

To Dimbullah’s credit they kept working hard and limited the score to 4-0 at half time thanks to further goals to Tom Seaton and Matthew McMaster, both striking well from distance while Danny Ferrero’s rasping left footed drive clipped the top of the crossbar before going over.

The second half saw the home side visibly tire, as you would expect while the Dragons were able to rotate their four substitutes to keep piling on the pressure.

There were only three goal scorers in the second half with new recruit Nathan Sayed notching his first goal for the club before going on to help himself to another three while Sam Neale also managed a four-goal haul via some powerful shooting.

The final goal of the evening came from the penalty spot after Matty Smith was again bundled over in the area.

He dusted himself off to slot the ball home past ex Douglas stalwart Kevvie Hann who had, up until that point, done everything in his power to deny Smith a goal.

It was fair to say that everyone in the ground was hoping for one more save in this instance!

The penalty wrapped up the scoring for the evening, making it a comprehensive 13-0 win for the Dragons.

The Paddys Bar Man of the Match went to Daniel Ferrero who was excellent all evening, getting forward well and causing problems with his overlapping runs. Next up is a double header for the Dragons.

First they travel to Cairns to take on Innisfail in the FNQ Cup before returning to Cassowary Park on Friday to take on Edge Hill.
