Young Guns, Cougars win at netball grand final

The Douglas netball senior grand finals were played last Tuesday at Port courts. 

Division 2 played the RingIns against Young Guns 1 in a battle of experience against youth.

The RingIns controlled the first half with strong play through the court and excellent shooting by Daisy Hawkes and Kristen Cambieras.

The 3rd quarter and a couple of team changes had the Young Guns shoot 12 goals to 5, the team showed some great transitional play moving the ball to goal with precision their mid court players excelled and the shooters didn't disappoint.

The Guns held tight in the last quarter to win the grand final 39-33.  Player of the match Samaria Denman.

Division 1 played the Cougars against Crocs 1.

Both teams with the bare 7 played the game with no interchange.

The Cougars started with a 12 goal first quarter and kept the pressure on to half time leading  by 5 goals, the circle defence by both teams was excellent if the goal didn't score it resulted in a turnover.

The Crocs snapped into action in the 3rd quarter  shooting 10-6 just a goal behind the Cougars.

The last quarter was a thriller with the Crocs evening the score but the Cougars tenacity paid off taking the game by a goal in a fantastic game between 2 competitive but friendly teams.

Final score 30-29 player of the match Cassandra Cairns.

The juniors played the 10/Under comp with the Little Saints playing the Young Stars, the Stars played a great game with plenty of intercepts against the Saints who defended  well.

Final score 2 nil to the Saints with best players Sophia Cullen, Brooke Harold, Ruby Woods and Anna Padovan.

Pink Lightning were on fire against the Young Comets they played all positions with striking force, the Comets struck back with a great third quarter but not enough to take the game.Lightening 8-2 with best players Lani Dickson and Saskia Booth.

 

The 12/Under played the elimination final with the Young Sapphires playing the Young Gems, the Sapphires started the game strongly shooting 3-1, the Gems matched them for the next 2 quarters playing very good team netball, the Sapphires rallied in the last quarter to take a spot in the grand finsl winning 12-8.

Best players Jenna Kerswell, Jay Heidke, Acacia Bowen and Jaslyn Chesterfield. 

The 14/Under comp 12/Reps played the Superheroes for a grand final berth.  The Reps were competitive through the centre court, intercepting and using the court well, the Heroes with great defence by Loukita Aston-Boyle were able to intercept many attacking plays by the Reps, a great effort by the Reps but the Heroes too strong winning 23-12 with best players Jenna Kerswell, Hannah Durie and Jemma Fasano.

The Superheroes to the grand final next week.

Next Tuesday the Junior grand final will be played the 10/Under will play as usual.

The 12/Under will play the Pythons against the Young Sapphires and the 14/Under grand final will play Young Guns 1 against the Superheroes.

Junior presentation will follow the games.
