Road trip to Cape York
Road Trip to Cape York
September 9th 2014, Tuesday
Speaking in Cairns yesterday morning northern-based LNP Queensland State Senator Ian Macdonald, who is travelling by road from Cairns to Bamaga and Sesia over the next seven days, said he was looking forward to meeting with constituents and stakeholders in Australia’s remote far-north.
“One of the things I want to do on this trip is to highlight some of the outstanding scenery that southern tourists could enjoy by coming to Cape York” he said.
“The World Heritage Daintree Rainforest is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and there are just so many wonderful restaurants and accommodation houses nestled in the wet tropics on the edge of the Great Barrier Reef.”
“This drive from Mossman through the Daintree and Cape Tribulation and Wujal Wujal to Cooktown is a must do activity for tourists who have been everywhere.”
Senator Macdonald said he was concerned that businesses in the Daintree were being strangled by of the cost of electricity which is astronomical due to the absence of mains power.
According to Senator Macdonald “Residents and businesses in the Daintree have to pay up to ten times more for diesel-generated power than most other Queenslanders. This has been the cause of many business closures” he said.
In Cooktown Senator Macdonald will meet with Cook Shire Mayor Cr Peter Scott to discuss upgrading the Peninsula Development Road, and to work out ways that tourist traffic can provide more job opportunities to the residents of Cook Shire.
The Senator is keen to hear the residents views so anyone who would like to meet him on his travels or simply follow his progress can access updates on his website at www.senatormacdonald.org and once there log in to the senator’s facebook page for further updates
