Staff at GBR Helicopter Tours celebrated Father’s Day on Sunday in their own unique style, putting on a sausage sizzle like many other organisations but also offering discounted flights for dads and kids around Port Douglas.
Sunday’s flawless sunny weather made the rides an extra treat for passengers, many of whom - fathers and children alike - had never flown in a helicopter before.
The tour company offered the flights as ‘free with every $69 hotdog purchase’, also raising money for Surf Lifesaving.
A GBR helicopter crew also delivered a lolly air-drop to the the Sunset in the Park Father’s Day picnic combined event at Rex Smeal Park and flew a large Australian flag around Port Douglas’s skies.
GBR Helicopters sales and marketing executive David Howarth, who donned a large hot dog costume and dropped by Sunset in the Park for a go on that event’s motorised Eskies, said the GBR father’s day picnic had been a successful event.
“It was a great day,” Mr Howarth said.
“Everyone had a good time, the weather was perfect and we took plenty of people up for the first time and they came down grinning from ear to ear, both the dads and the kids.
“We’re looking forward to doing it again next year.”
