Staff and families from the Port Douglas Fire Station came together last week to celebrate the service of two of the station’s leaders.

The small party was held to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the service of Acting Captain Clayton Vladich and to send off acting Station Officer Justin Georgeson, and was also attended by crews and families from the Mossman station and auxiliary firefighters from the Port Douglas station.

Officer Georgeson arrived at the station four months ago and is now being transferred back to the Cairns station to await further reassignment.

He was responsible for command development for the Far Northern district, encompassing Port Douglas, Mossman, Kuranda and Cooktown.

He said that he had greatly enjoyed the time at the station and lauded the professionalism and tight-knit nature of the firefighters there.

“I’ve absolutely enjoyed my time here,” Officer Georgeson said.

“It’s a busy, difficult place to work but the staff here at the station do a great job because they have an ownership of the community.

“They have a family dynamic and look out for each other but they are also very professional,” he said.
