Crocs president reflects on season

Well here I sit, four days after our huge day at Cazaly's, reflecting on the year past.
Back in October 2013, I was sitting down with the match committee and planning what was required to take the club to the next level.
With 27 new players recruited, we needed work and accommodation in what is a limited market in Port Douglas.
Coops hit the ground running, and within 3 weeks of the season we had accomplished that and, to Coops credit, he had begun to gel the players as a team.
With cyclones taking a round of footy from us, then a forfeit from Hawks and then Kane Goodwin leaving town, it was a full time job keeping Coops and Jim positive.
They did not waver from their plan and we had a good season, both home and away.
I don’t think people realise how much work goes into each match. Rotations have become such a big part of each week and the team that does it correctly normally runs out the game better.
Over the season you get to make many mates who have arrived in town and who take their role in the team very seriously.
The Okes, Damo, Zac, KB, Prater, Scully, Kelly, Lea, Certs, Garth, Big Wortho and Mueller, etc - they are all great people.
As for our local talent with Freyling, McCartney, McKeown and the past imports in Wearmouth, Bendle ,Turtle and Booney, it was a great squad.
The reserves were filled with local talent and the majority were juniors now or past.
It is great to see three young footballers in Ashley Davidson, Nathan Evans, Ethan McCullough and Andrew McLeod follow in their fathers' legendary performances at the Croc Pit.
Heff did a great job chasing players all year and trying to put a side on the field each week.
I remember watching the Colts play some great footy to bring home the flag and dreamed we in the senior ranks could feel that great satisfaction come September.
To all the volunteers and sponsors who assisted over the year, you have all been part of what makes a great club.
What we need now is all get behind the players one more time and come to the presentation night.
It is on Friday 3rd October and will be huge.
Call John Cameron for bookings before next Tuesday (drag a few mates along also).
I will take this opportunity to thank my committee who all contributed throughout the long season.
Congrats to Coops, Heff , Jim Buckley and all their helpers in what is a memorable year in the history of the Port Douglas Football Club.
The Pres.
