Member for Cook David Kempton has commended SES volunteers during SES Award Winners Week.

Every year State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers take time away from their families and their workplaces to help out in their communities.

In the past year, the SES has performed around 470,000 hours of volunteer work for the people of Queensland.

Many SES members were deployed away from their home to assist those in need during severe weather events like Cyclone Ita.

Other members searched in scorching temperatures from dusk until dawn for missing persons like Innisfail woman Shannon Fraser.

This week is SES Week (18 – 26 October); an opportunity to thank the thousands of Queenslanders who volunteer their time with the SES to help out their community.

Mr Kempton said “I would like to thank each and every one of the Queensland SES members for their dedication and commitment to helping out fellow Queenslanders in times of need.”

“I would like to congratulate Anthony White from Chillagoe SES and Melonie Bewick from Mareeba SES on receiving certificates during the SES Week. My sincere admiration is extended to Albert (Bob) Taylor from the Mossman SES on receiving the 35 year National Medal Second Clasp.”

“I encourage all Queenslanders to show your support for your local SES group by taking the time to thank any SES volunteers you know during SES Week 2014,” Mr Kempton said.
