Mayor launches Christmas Appeal
Monday October 27 2014, 4:00pm
Douglas Shire Council Mayor Julia Leu has launched her Christmas Appeal to help the less fortunate in our community.
The Mayor’s Christmas Appeal will provide Christmas food hampers to Douglas Shire families in need for the festive season in an efffort to ease financial burdens on people facing pressure.
“I believe it is important to help families in our community who may be struggling, often through no fault of their own, to celebrate Christmas and put a smile on the faces of local children,” cr Leu said.
“I am pleased to announce that the first donation received for the inaugural Mayor’s Christmas Appeal is from the Friends of Douglas Shire.”
Every dollar raised through the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal goes directly towards buying food for Christmas hampers.
Local churches and community groups assist in packing and delivering the hampers, which are delivered to local families before Christmas.
“Christmas is a time to spend with our loved ones and appreciate what we have and I urge anyone who can to donate. We are grateful for all donations no matter how small," Cr Leu said.
Everything helps.”
Donation forms are available at www.douglas.qld.gov.au, the Council Office, Mossman Library and Library Kiosk@Port.
