Douglas Shire Council’s RADF program for 2014-2015 opens today and individuals and groups within the Shire are invited to apply for up to $3000 for projects commencing after 1 January 2015.

The Regional Arts Development Fund is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Queensland local councils.

“We believe funding councils and working closely with them to support grass-roots arts is an essential part of delivery the arts to all Queenslanders,” Arts Minister Ian Walker said.

“We want to get the best result from every dollar spent, so we’re taking a special look at projects that may increase returns on this cultural investment.

“A vibrant arts community, from the biggest city to the smallest town, can attract money and tourists so both business and the arts can be winners from these grants,” he said.

Acting Mayor Abigail Noli, who also sits on the Douglas Shire’s RADF Committee, said the combined contribution of Council and the State Government meant there was $20,000 in funding available locally through the program.

“The Douglas Shire is renowned for our creative talents and the RADF program is an excellent opportunity to recognise our local artists with a much-needed funding boost,” Cr Noli said.

Application kits will be available from Douglas Shire Council’s Administration Office 64-66 Front St Mossman and online.
