UPDATE: 24 November

The rumors are true - Dominos Pizza will be setting up shop in Port Douglas in time for Christmas at Shop 18 in Port Village Shopping Centre.

The fast-food pizza outlet will be sited between Vista Realty and Port Douglas Medical Centre.

Although the exact timetable is still being decided, Dominos said the new outlet would be open by the festive season, ‘all things pending well’.

The identity of who will operate the new outlet is still under wraps, but Dominos has confirmed that it is a Far North Queensland local that is ‘already part of the Dominos family’.

Domino’s CEO and Managing Director, Don Meij, said the company was excited about opening the new store in this region and that they are on the hunt for passionate employees to join the team.

“We’re looking for local staff who are determined, passionate and committed to success,” he said.

“The Domino’s store will create up to 20-30 new full and part-time jobs.

“Port Douglas is a very attractive place for locally-owned and operated businesses and we are excited about moving in and taking up permanent residence in this region.”

The new Domino’s store at Port Douglas will feature softer tones and wood panelling, an enhanced counter and the latest technology will improve the overall Domino’s experience for customers.

The Port Douglas opening announcement comes shortly after Domino’s announced the search to find 75 of the very best franchisees to grow with the industry leading brand in the new financial year.

Head of Franchising and Development at Domino’s, Pat McMichael says it’s the perfect time for people to consider a career in franchising with Domino’s.

“A new financial year seems to bring with it a time for a job change as Australians assess their satisfaction levels in jobs and nothing screams satisfaction more than taking charge of your situation and becoming your own boss,” he said.

According to Mr McMichael, Dominos plans to open 75 new stores across Australia and New Zealand in the new financial year including new stores in all metro markets across both countries and into regional towns currently not serviced by Domino’s.

“We are looking for 75 of the very best - great, motivated and passionate people looking for the opportunity to work and earn a crust in their own franchising business.

Public reaction to the rumours on Newsport's Facebook page has been polarizing, to say the least, with many residents welcoming the arrival of the pizza chain and others expressing grave concerns that the development bodes ill for Douglas's seaside hamlet atmosphere.

What do you think?

Is this good news for Douglas pizza lovers or will it lead to a 'Domino' effect of more big franchises taking over town?
