Stinger nets out at Four Mile Beach.

Stinger nets are now out on Four Mile Beach, meaning swimmers can take to the water in peace of mind.

The nets will stay in place until May.

Although the nets are designed to keep out box jellyfish and irukandji, swimmers are still advised to wear covering clothing such as rashies or stinger suits, just in case.

Box jellyfish and irukandji can inflict extremely painful stings with their stinging cells, called 'nematocysts.

Anyone hit by a stinger while in the water should immediately go to a trained surf lifesaver for help.
