Mossman detectives have charged a 47-year-old Cairns woman following a protracted investigation into a number of alleged thefts from rooms at a Port Douglas resort complex.
The offences are alleged to have occurred over an 18-month period, starting early last year.
Police have chosen not to release the name of the resort.
Detective Sergeant Trevor Perham said the resort's owners first became concerned when guests' cash and jewellery started going missing.
"There was a pattern of offences occurring in the Port Douglas area and had increased in frequency over the last six months," he said.
"The resort management along with Mossman detectives initiated an operation to target property offences at the resort.
"As a result, police yesterday arrested a woman with a number of offences."
The woman, a former resort employee, was charged with two counts of entering a dwelling and stealing and one count of stealing as a clerk or servant.
She is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on May 26.
Det Sgt Perham said a complete review of security at the resort is currently being undertaken.
Police are urging other businesses to assess their own security plans following the alleged thefts.
"I'd urge all businesses in the Douglas Shire to be security conscious and review their security measures," Det Sgt Perham said.
"It's not what the region needs. It's a relief to have solved this and bring a stop to it."
