New South Wales have gotten the first hit in for Origin 2014 after a nailbiting 12-8 win at Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday night.

Their determination to break Queensland’s epic winning streak was perfectly exemplified by Brett Morris diving across the line and dislocating his own shoulder to plant a try.

Excellent work by Darius Boyd on the wings gave Queensland some momentum but they were ultimately unable to break the dogged NSW try-line defence, with Billy Slater being utterly buried beneath a mountain of blue metres from the line in the final seconds of the game.

Diehard footy fans got out to watch their teams go at it on the Central Hotel’s two projector screens.

The Newsport was on scene to capture the action.
