Picture perfect weather welcomed a parade of motorcyclists to Port Douglas at the weekend taking part in the Australian Harley Owners Group Rally.

More than 1300 riders soaked in the sun as they cruised along the Captain Cook Highway travelling from Cairns to Port Douglas and back on Sunday.

Sergeant Damian Meadows said the event had been well organised with tourists and locals lining the streets of Port Douglas to welcome the special procession.

"It was thoroughly enjoyed and there were a lot of people taking in the spectacle of it all," Sergeant Meadows said.

"Apparently it's generated millions of dollars for the local community which is great."

Traffic police followed riders up the highway along with two Cairns police officers riding specially marked Harley Davidsons for the day.

The event wrapped up with a 'Show 'n' Shine' bike show at the Cairns Esplanade Lagoon with onlookers getting a chance to see the bikes up close.
