Rian's wild ride

Monday March 24 2014

Far north Queensland adventure cyclist Rian Cope has travelled around the world on his bike.

This year the Port Douglas-based rider hopes to trek  more than 1400 kilometres across the Gibson and Great Sandy Deserts, from Alice Springs to Eighty Mile Beach on the north-west coast of Western Australia.

Mr Cope, who last year completed a ride from Paris to the Sahara Desert, said the ride is extremely dangerous if it isn't well planned.

"We're coordinating with some of the communities out there," he said.

"So that if something goes wrong, people are aware of where you are."
