Jared Brennan is a Lion once again.

The former Brisbane Lions and Gold Coast Suns star will play in the AFL Cairns competition this year, joining Cairns City Lions.

The announcement was made at the club’s jumper presentation on Saturday evening at Holloways Beach Social Club in front of more than 200 players, members and supporters.

Lions senior coach, Marc Harbrow addressed the crowd towards the end of the function, declaring the 195-centimetre utility was ‘looking forward’ to playing in far north Queensland.

The news was immediately greeted with rapturous applause by the Lions faithful.

Brennan, 29, is expected to play at least two games this year.

The star recruit will wear number 17 for the club, a jumper he made famous while with Brisbane.

Harbrow said Brennan would improve the competition's reputation.

"He's a fair dinkum bloke, Jared, and it'll be great for the club," he said.

"But it's massive not just for us but Cairns footy too. He'll be one of the biggest names to have ever played in this league so far."

The exciting utility played 173 AFL games before retiring at the end of last season.

The Lions will be captained this year by Tasmanian recruit Michael Paul.

"He'll be assistant coach as well," Harbrow said of the tall key forward.

"His footy skills are outstanding. He's got big hands so I can see him busting a few packs and taking some big grabs."

Harbrow is the elder brother of dashing Gold Coast defender Jarrod Harbrow.
