New jocks on the block

Tuesday March 18 2014

Radio Port Douglas' long-running Saturday morning sport show will return to the airwaves this weekend with two new voices behind the microphone.

Barry Lea and Corrine Garland will join host Nick 'Nicky G' Gibson, replacing Kerry Larsen and Simon James.

Gibson said the show had a big job to do, keeping on top of the more than 40 sporting clubs in the Douglas region.

"We're still going to have big name stars like in previous years and the fantastic mystery caller will be back as well.

"We love local sport but we'll also have some big names on the show.

"We'll try and make it bigger and better than ever."

Co-hosts Lea and Garland will bring strong sporting knowledge to the team, Gibson said.

"We'll definitely miss the old team but I really think we've got the mix right this year," he said.

"These guys bring something new and it's going to be an exciting year with some new talent," he said.

Australian basketball legend, Andrew Gaze will appear on the first show of the year, which will air from nine-to-11am through the year.

The show, now in its 14th year on air, is sponsored by the Port Douglas District Combined Clubs and the Iron Bar.

You can listen to Radio Port Douglas on 90.9 and 107.1 FM throughout the Douglas region.
