Women's Day in Port Douglas

Friday March 7 2014

The Douglas region has celebrated International Women's Day in style with a ladies luncheon at Salsa's restaurant in Port Douglas.

More than 80 guests were in attendance, including guest speaker Pam Willis Burden and recently appointed Douglas Shire Council CEO, Linda Cardew.

Organiser, Sheila Pitman said it was an important time to look at issues that still exist for women today.

"Women should have a voice and not everyone is as lucky as we are as Australians in that regard," Ms Pitman said.

"So it's just nice little moment for reflection."

Ms Pitman said seeing so many talented women in the same room together made the hard work in organising the event worthwhile.

"We spent a few months organising it and getting it together but it's been such a fun event," she said.

Funds raised from the luncheon will go towards the Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre.
