2 Fish Seafood Restaurant on Macrossan Street launched its wedding party service Thursday evening with the goal of ‘getting onto the wedding radar’.

Guests will be able to hire out all or a portion of 2 Fish for a professionally-designed reception or party, with the guiding hand of wedding planner and stylist Alex Oatley, who was brought on specifically by principal owner Jeff Gale.

Mr Gale said the restaurant already had a reputation for events management and was now looking to expand.

“2 Fish is a restaurant that has been around for about 12 years now but before we moved we didn’t really have a venue for this kind of thing,” Mr Gale said.

“We’ve done a number of events and now we’re expanding into weddings which is a little more stylized and you do a bit more work, so this is an expansion of what we do.

“Port Douglas is one of the major destination wedding locations in Australia, we now have a venue and an opportunity to target that market.”

Ms Oately said leveraging the restaurant’s modern decor and proximity to Four Mile Beach would give 2 Fish an advantage.

“For one thing, 2 Fish has award-winning, amazing seafood, for another we’re right next to the beach and we also have this great interior, it’s very spacious and contemporary,” Ms Oatley said.

“Weddings are definitely a growing market and there’s definitely a growing market in Port Douglas for destination weddings.”
