Shots of Douglas’s magnificent surroundings will air on British TV early next year as part of a BBC One series being filmed near the Sugar Wharf earlier today. 

The program is titled Wanted Down Under and focuses on British families that move to Australia. 

The producers assist each family to travel to Australia and investigate the feasibility of moving to the country, then film with them for one week. 

Segments filmed at Port Douglas will be used for linking segments and feature shots of host Nicki Chapman with the opening of Dickson Inlet and the Great Dividing Range in the background. 

Ms Chapman said Port Douglas was her ‘favourite place in Australia to film’ due to its natural beauty and lack of noise pollution. 

“I’ve been to Port Douglas many times, I first came here when I was much younger and I think it’s absolutely beautiful,” Ms Chapman said. 

The Wanted Down under footage filmed at Douglas is part of the series’ ninth season and will air on BBC One in January next year.

According to the Wanted Down Under website about 50,000 Britons emigrate to Australia or New Zealand every year.
