Arts funding for locals announced

Douglas art projects will be getting a boost from the Queensland Government after the latest round of funding was released by Douglas Shire Council on Tuesday.
The Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) is a partnership between the State Government and local council and aims to support the development of artists outside major population centres.
Douglas Shire Community Services Associaiton Inc received $800 to employ two local emerging Kuku Yalanji artists plus materials to provide an opportunity for youth to participate in a screen printing project, while historian
Pamela Willis Burden also received $800 to assist with her Douglas Diaries oral history project, which will record memories of older people who grew up in Douglas.
Douglas Theatre Arts Group Inc received $800 to create a musical score to support the production of 'Love in the Treetops’, while the Douglas Arts Gallery Studio Inc got $900 to hold two day-long mosaic workshop at Douglas Arts Base with Dominic Johns.
Goobidi Bamanga Community Advancement Cooperative Society will receive $1000
to engage a professional workshop facilitator to run a series of workshops with local Kuku Yalanji culminating in a script celebrating the story of Goobidi.
Finally playwright Amy Bell received $700 toward her cost of travel and accommodation for the Brisbane Writers Festival to showcase her work and gain professional skills development.
State Arts Minister Ian Walker said the the Regional Arts Development Fund supports more than 3000 arts and cultural projects each year.
“In 2013–14, the Queensland Government will provide $2.037 million, with another $1.49 million coming from 55 Queensland councils,” he said.
“This means $3.5 million for arts and cultural projects across the state, enabling communities to choose projects to meet their own needs and opportunities.”
