Mossman Golf Club had perfect weather for a field of around 130 players competing in the FNQ Mens and FNQ Ladies Championships held on 5th & 6th July. 

Many thanks go to the President Geoff Goodwin and his Committee to ensure the Club and course were in great condition, for an event organized by Danny Bradley & FNQ Mens Committee and Christelle Prnsloo and FNQ Ladies Committee. Thanks to the numerous volunteers assisting with event preparations, starting the field, course marshall duties, card checking, scoreboard and handicapping duties.

A significant number of Mossman volunteers assisted Matty Coulthard with the course preparation,with special mention to Steve Gray.

Damien Pitcher was instrumental in ensuring no player was left dehydrated on the course.

Lisa Smith and her team kept the food and drinks flowing in the clubhouse, with BBQ kings Geoff Goodwin and Steve Gray.

Volunteer spotters ensured that lost balls were quickly reunited with players, to keep the pace of play moving.

The Pro Shop team were always helpful to meet players requirements for golf clothing and equipment.  The dinners on Friday and Saturday evening were catering in great style by Peter & Pia McKeown.

Tuesday 24 June:  The Court House Hotel voucher winner was Bill Allison with 36 points on a count-back to John Caswell and in 3rd place Lloyd Redpath 34 on a count-back to Bruce Cheesman.

Wednesday’s Sporters 9 hole event was won by Peter Gray with 24 points ahead of Kerri-Lynn Williams 19 and Graham Scott 18.

 NTP’ – Rudy Van Hardeveld.

Thursday’s Ladies event was won by Maxine Leigh with 33 points on a count-back to Dixie Dennis and in 3rd place Fran Macri 32.

NTP’s – Leonie Phillips, Lucy Giles, Bette Wells, Glenda Christensen & Maureen Everett.

Friday 27 June: Talented Junior Wade Duncan won with 20 points.

Saturday 28 June: The LJ Hooker Port Douglas Monthly Medal was won by George Macri with nett 68, runner up Steve Gray 69.

Gross winners – A Grade Peter Hornsby 82, B Grade Rob Young 87, C Grade Norm Lockwood 90.  Nett winners A Grade Ralf Middel 75, B Grade Graham Cook 73, C Grade Darryl Hobson 70.

NTP’s – Zac Hore, Steve Gray on 8 & 17, George Macri and Jeff Murray.

The Ladies Monthly Medal sponsored by Judy McCormack was won by Julie Hooker with nett 73, ahead of Glenda Christensen 75 and Katie Brims 76.

The putting competition was won by Pris Freeman.

Tuesday 1 July: The winner of the Monthly Medal sponsored by On the Inlet Restaurant was won by Steve Portch with nett 72 on a four way count-back, ahead of Mal Phillips, Paul Di Mauro and Simon Nelson.

NTP’s – Leon Baker on 6 & 8, Ralf Middel, Mal McKellar & Paul McMahon.

Wednesday’s Sporters 9 hole event was won by Rudy Van Hardeveld 23 ahead of John Cameron 22 and Paul Firth 21.

On Thursday 3 July, Virginia Goodall put together a great round of nett 66 to blitz the field.  In second place Fran Macri 70 on a count-back to Jo Constantine.  The putting event was won by Shona Barbour.

FNQ Ladies results Saturday 5th July, Gross winner Robyn Lunn 87 on a count-back to Pam Shay.  Nett winner Priya Patel 65, runner-up Suda Woodward 70.

Sunday 6th July, Gross winner Mikaela Goodwin 83, runner-up Tracey Benham 89.  Nett winner Suda Woodward 70, runner-up Bev Cowe 71.

NTP’s – Jo Constantine, Suda Woodward, Lyn Ford & Sarah Wilson.

36 hole Winners – Open Champion and Closed Champion Tracey Benham with 176 gross.  Runner-up Nerida Wilson.  Div I Nett winner Bev Cowe, runner-up Mikaela Goodwin.  Div II Gross winner Priya Patel, runner-up Debbie Muzic. Nett winner Tricia Shaw, runner-up Helen McLellan.  Div III Gross winner Suda Woodward, Nett winner  Dixie Dennis.  Senior Champion Michelle Pearsall, Junior Champion Mikeala Goodwin.

Nominations are invited for the Mossman Quicksilver Open to be held on 19th & 20th July 2014.\

Club Championships are now to be held on 2nd, 3rd, 9th & 10th August 2014.
