Crews are working on repairing a cane train that derailed near the South Mossman River Bridge at about 10:30am today.

The train belongs to Mackay Sugar and was on its way to Mossman Mill with a full load of cut cane when it derailed, with seven of its 36 bins coming off the rails on the northern side of the river.

The rest of the bins stretch across the South Mossman River Rail Bridge but are undamaged.

Cranes from Kelly's Crane Hire and Mackay Sugar staff were working to remove the damaged bins from the tracks when the NewsPort was on the scene at about 1:30pm.

No-one is believed to have been injured and a statement from Mackay Sugar is forthcoming.
