Bar to host spicy wing eating challenge to mark 4th of July

Can you handle your spicy wings? How do you handle your spicy food?

A Douglas bar will challenge residents to take on its infamously hot American-style spicy chicken wings to celebrate US Independence Day on Friday July 4.

Estilo Bar, part of QT Port Douglas, is celebrating the land of the free and the home of the brave - emphasis on the ‘brave’, daring anyone with the gumption to eat 10 of their Killer Chicken wings as fast as possible.

Estilo Bar’s chef Dylan Chandler keeps the exact recipe of the wings’ hot sauce a secret but it is known to contain Habenero and Cayenne chillies, Sririacha sauce, peppercorn and chilli oil.

The contestant with the most heat-resistant capabilities will win a prize package including a night’s accomodation in a QT villa, breakfast for two at Bazaar and two Gold-Class tickets to Moonlight Cinema.

Second and third placegetters will receive complimentary tickets to Event Cinemas in Cairns.

QT Port Douglas Events Co-Ordinator Emily Byrne said the wings would test the mettle of the entrants.

“Dylan’s hot sauce is delicious but we don’t call them ‘killer’ wings for nothing,” Ms Byrne said.

“I’ve seen grown men unable to finish one wing, let alone ten.

“That said the basket of Killer Wings does sell extremely well out of Estilo so there must be people out there with a taste for fire.”

Estilo Bar will have milk, water, and classic American beer Budweiser on standby.

The competition ties into an American theme on the night and guests are encouraged to dress in red, white and blue.

Anyone fancying themselves hard enough to take on the Killer Wings needs to register for the event before midday Friday by calling QT on 4099 8932.
