Staff at Mantra Aqueous in Port Douglas will put their baking skills on display for charity during a fundraising event to be held on Friday.

The event, which also includes a sausage sizzle and prize raffle, will be open to guests and the public and will aim to raise money for the Red Cross’s Good Start Breakfast Club initiative.

Mantra Aqueous front office supervisor Robyn Buick said the while the hotel’s staff would have a good crack at making tasty cakes, manager Paul Davis was definitely the venue’s ‘Master Chef’.

“Paul’s definitely got some skills,” Ms Buick said.

“The rest of us are definitely going to give it a go but I don’t know if we’re in his league or not.

“This is a great event - we try to do at least three a year here at Aqueous and last year we raised about $800, this year we’re looking to at least raise $900.”

Ms Buick said the event would be open to everyone.

“We’re just having it out on the lawn so anyone walking past can drop in and pick up a sausage for $2 or ask for a slice of cake - we are just asking for a gold coin donation in return.”

Prizes in the raffle include vouchers to several Port Douglas businesses including Quicksilver, the Wildlife Habitat and Grub’s Trike Tours.

The Good Start Breakfast Club initiative that provides healhty breakfasts and nutritional information to thousands of schoolchildren around Australia that might otherwise go hungry.

Ms Buick also wished to thank David and Linda from Brumby’s for support with sausage sizzle supplies.
