From July, Douglas Shire’s tradies will have six months to relinquish any ties with bikies or lose their license to practice.

The new laws are part of a range of controversial anti-association laws being pushed through by the State Government in its bid to part crackdown on motorcycle gangs. 

Under amendments to the Electrical Safety Act, every plumber, builder and electrician in Queensland who applies for or renews a license to practice will undergo a police background check. 

Police will be required to pass on any criminal intelligence with government regulators, who license tradies. 

According to an ABC report, the Electrical Trades Union said the law reform means up to 200 electricians could lose their license to practice because of prior gang association.
