Roundabout hacked up by hoons
Hoons showed blatant disregard for the Douglas community last week, doing burnouts that reduced the new Port Douglas roundabout to a mess of tyre tracks and mud splatters by Friday morning.
The local vandalism comes after the Queensland Government passed tough new anti-hooning laws in November last year.
According to Queensland Police, the new legislation came into effect on November 1 and supports the State Government’s election commitment to have the toughest anti-hoon laws in Australia.
The law reform aims to improve road safety, extending the previous two categories of vehicle related offences to further deter repeat offenders, stop offenders by taking their cars away and provide efficiency gains for the QPS.
Under the new laws, anyone caught doing burnouts, drifting, donuts or other hoon behaviour will have their car impounded for three months.
