Port retail icon closes after 8 years

After 8 years of trading in the Port Village Shopping Centre, the Natural Clothing Store will close its doors on 31 January 2013 for the last time.

Outgoing owner Janette Walker said, "It is a great business that would be good for someone to work in themselves 4-5 days and employ staff for the remainder. There is still time for someone to take it on for themselves".

In the meantime Janette is holding a ‘Nothing over $50’ sale (although many items start at $20) to clear her remaining stock.

"Fashion retailing has had a real hammering for the past three years, but the formula of selling ONLY clothes from Natural Fibres, such as cotton, linen, hemp, bamboo and modal, has been a successful one", she said.

Janette said, "special thanks for the success of the store have to go to Vee Clarke and Loraine Robertson for their tireless efforts".

When the Newsport asked her why she was selling up and moving on, she explained, "Rather than thinking of closing the business, we are really thinking of it as downsizing.  Our sister store, Jungle Road at the Saltwater Buildings in Macrossan Street, will remain open, and the associated website www.jungleroad.com.au is doing quite well".
