Newsport's newest reporter
Creating the perfect playlist for the trip from Cairns to Port Douglas wasn't high on Sam Davis's to-do list.
That is, of course, until he became the newest member of Newsport Daily.
Sam joins the team following a long stint at ABC Far North and and an extended period working with Channel Seven in Cairns.
He takes on the evolving role of Multimedia Reporter for the region, replacing Emma Groves.
"It's a really interesting time to start here," Sam says. "There are so many interesting issues going on in the Douglas area and it's obvious the community wants to talk about them."
With almost a decade's experience reporting in far north Queensland, Sam says he's keen to talk more about about the place 'where the reef meets the rainforest'.
"This area has historically been a proud and parochial bunch," he says. "People here really care about their patch and want to be engaged in the issues that affect them.
"That means the dialogue is always passionate and that's great."
In 2011, Sam was nominated for the Walkley Young Journalist of the Year and won the Queensland Multimedia Award for Best Online Story.
He says he's keen to know what songs he should add to his playlist and what issues you think should be talked about.
"The community drive the stories. You tell us what's happening and we delve further," he says.
You can contact Sam on 07 4099 5122, or visit him at the Newsport offices at 50 Macrossan Street, Port Douglas.
