New format to help drive region's marketing

The Douglas Shire's official tourism organisation introduced a focus group format at their marketing meeting yesterday, aiming to gain a greater insight from industry professionals.

Tourism Port Douglas Daintree's (TPDD) Business Development Executive, Tara Bennett, said yesterday's Marketing Strategy Advisory Group meeting was "held to gain market insight from TPDD members who are actively marketing their products in the domestic and international markets."

"This format allows us to seek guidance from a diverse selection of operators on the future focus of TPDD marketing activities."

Representatives from a variety of tourism operators and accommodation houses attended, including Tropical Journeys, Flames of the Forest, Jungle Surfing, Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures, and Mossman Gorge Centre.

Ms Bennett said the new focus group style was used "to elicit more insight from professionals focused on their specific markets."

During the meeting, the groups identified the current primary, secondary and emerging markets for the destination; the markets with the potential for further growth; and the marketing tools to be used to communicate with each market within budgetary limitations.

The outcomes from yesterday’s meeting will add to the final TPDD marketing strategy for 2014-15.
